What Is Sexual Assault

Sexual assault is a crime that has no place in the Military and there is a zero tolerance policy against it.  It is an affront to the basic American values we defend, and may degrade military readiness, subvert strategic goodwill, and forever change the lives of victims and their families

Sexual assault is a crime. It is defined by the Department of Defense as any intentional sexual contact, characterized by use of force, physical threat or abuse of authority or when the victim does not or cannot consent.

Sexual assault includes, but is not limited to: Rape, Nonconsensual sodomy (oral or anal sex), Indecent assault (unwanted, inappropriate sexual contact or fondling) or attempts to commit these acts.

Sexual assault can occur without regard to gender or spousal relationship or age of victim.

All leaders at every level must maintain a workplace environment that rejects sexual assault and attitudes that promote such behaviors
