Colonel Robert H. Walter Jr. is the Chief of Staff, Oklahoma National Guard. He serves as the primary assistant to The Adjutant General with overall responsibility and oversight of more than 1,000 fulltime employees of the Oklahoma Army National Guard and directly supervises the Staff Directors and the five major brigade-size subordinate command fulltime officers in charge. Colonel Walter provides The Adjutant General with pertinent data, information and insight from the Staff with timely and solid guidance. He ensures The Adjutant General is informed at all times on critical and pertinent issues and events that effect his decision-making. Colonel Walter is also responsible for the execution of the federal and state budgets and the oversight of the Recruiting and Retention Program for the Oklahoma National Guard.
Colonel Walter commissioned in 1993 through the Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Central Oklahoma. In prior assignments, he has served as the Joint Task Force Commander, Oklahoma National Guard; Deputy Commander, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team; Squadron Commander, 1st Squadron, 180th Cavalry Regiment; and Command Group Executive Officer, Joint Force Headquarters. Prior to receiving his commission, Colonel Walter served three years as an enlisted member of the Oklahoma Army National Guard.
